The University of Maryland Terrapins take on the Rowan Profs at home; their first game in over a month. Coming off a long break in play, the Terps plan to finish the year strong, and make another run for nationals.
This game will be the first since the club’s 4-2 win against Georgetown on December 6. While the break might have left other teams rusty and deconditioned, the Terps are ready to get back on the ice to take on Rowan – a team they are 0-1 against this year.
Over the break, the team has been preparing. Senior forward Sean “Diddy” Combs is ready to challenge a worthy opponent. “We're familiar with the team so we know they'll play fast and physical,” he said. “We also know they like to counter fast into the offensive zone so we'll have to play smart and maintain our discipline defensively. This team really wants it and after a great week of practice I think we'll be up for the challenge.”
Rowan is 13-5-0, their latest win being against Wagner College on January 18. The Terps will have to watch out for Profs’ top scorer Alec Nicolai, who also leads the team in points and assists.
Combs isn’t worried, as the game against Rowan is just another step toward the Terps’ ultimate goal. “Our goal is nothing short of another run at Nationals and Rowan is just another team in the way” he said. “We have four lines of offense and three lines of defense that we all feel confident can play against the best of any team, and together we'll finish the season strong.”
The game is this Friday at Herbert Wells Ice Rink at 8:00 PM.
